Genus Timoconia Strand, 1909

Introduction

Toussaint et al. (2022) revised the higher classification of the Trapezitinae based on a robust molecular phylogeny which resulted in a number of nomenclatural changes concerning genera, species and subspecies. These nomenclatural changes include the reinstatement of the genus Timoconia Strand, 1909. Since Timoconia thielei Strand, 1909 (the type species of Timoconia) is a junior synonym of Hesperia peron Latreille, 1824, Timoconia Strand, 1909 is a valid and available name for the clade of four taxa (peron, melania, flammeata, tymbophora) and therefore becomes the senior synonym of Signeta Waterhouse & Lyell, 1914 (type species: Telesto flammeata Butler, 1882) because it was published five years earlier.
