Species Theclinesthes serpentatus (Herrich-Schäffer, 1869)

Chequered Blue, Salt-bush Blue

Introduction

While Common & Waterhouse (1981) treat the genus Theclinesthes Röber, 1891 as feminine, Braby (2010) lists Theclinesthes serpentatus correcting the gender to masculine. Orr and Fliedner (2011) argue that such change is not justified, although they note that their conclusion is still provisional, based on conjecture and that the case might require application to the ICZN for a formal ruling.
Braby (2011) questions this interpretation because the author’s original intention is unknown and the genus appears to be in masculine form until proven otherwise.
