Genus Thanatodictya Kirkaldy, 1906

Compiler and date details

14 September 2010 - Murray J. Fletcher

Introduction

Species in this genus are superficially similar in size and shape to species of Hasta except that they are brown rather than green. Kirkaldy (1906) divided the genus into three subgenera based on the degree of nodulosity of the vertex and partly on colour but these subgenera were not recognised by Melichar (1912) although subsequent authors (e.g. Metcalf 1946) recognised a subgeneric classification. Beyond Australia, there is one species in New Zealand and two species in the Oriental region in the subgenus Niculda Kirkaldy and a species in eastern Indonesia which was not placed into a subgenus.

Clypeus tricarinate. Second antennal segment small, globular. Tegmina hyaline, apical third subreticulate. Legs simple, posterior tibiae 4-spined. (Kirkaldy 1906)
