Genus Tetramitus Perty, 1852

Diagnosis

Small amoebae moving by eruptive protrusions from a hemispherical anterior lobopodium. Differentiation to flagellate cells in some species, not recorded in several others but the required conditions may differ. Flagellates ovoid, cylindrical or tapering, with an antero-lateral cytostome; flagellar number usually two or four in different species, but varying during the cell cycle. Cysts diverse, some with excystment pores, some without.
