Family TURBINOPTIDAE Fain, 1957
Introduction
The world fauna of nine genera and 38 species of Turbinoptidae was catalogued by Fain (1977). These mites are endoparasites that occur in the upper respiratory tract of many groups of birds. The known Australian fauna includes only one species in each of five genera. The available information on the Australian fauna was reviewed by Domrow (1992). It seems very likely that many more species await discovery.
