Family TRIMUSCULIDAE J.Q. Burch, 1945

Introduction

A family of marine pulmonates with cap-shaped shells with a apex pointed posteriorly and often eroded.
A single species is known from Australia.

A general account of the family (Hubendick 1946) , a detailed review of some South American species (Schumann 1911) have been presented and Yonge (1958) recorded data on the Californian Trimusculus reticulatus.

Trimusculids have reduced tentacles with eyes at their bases, the siphon furrow is located on the right side of the shell and they lack a jaw.

They live in the intertidal and the Australian species occurs on exposed rocky shores of eastern and southern Australia.
