Introduction
Trichopsocidae are a small family of one genus and eight species, one of which has been recorded from Tasmania.
Trichopsocids have 13-segmented antennae and 2-segmented tarsi. The claw is without a preapical tooth and the pulvillus is broad. The wing venation is similar to that of the Caeciliidae. The forewing has the margin and veins setose, with the setae in a single row on the branches of the veins and with the apical marginal setae not crossing each other. The hind wing veins are glabrous and the setae do not cross each other but are alternately long and short. The phallosome has sclerification in the penial bulb and the gonapophyses are complete and similar to those of the Calopsocidae. The eggs are covered by an encrustation of debris and there are no silken threads.
