Family TRHYPOCHTHONIIDAE Willmann, 1931
Introduction
The family Trhypochthoniidae includes nine genera and 65 species world-wide (Schatz et al. 2011). Some species are very widespread, but the family is most diverse in the Oriental Region (Subias 2011). They are found in wet habitats, including peat bogs, streams, and springs, and can be found immersed in water, where they appear to be microbial feeders (Norton & Behan-Pelletier 2009). The Australian fauna includes one species in each of four genera, as well as some records of unidentified species (Malipatil & Blyth 1982). Colloff & Halliday (1998) clarified the taxonomic and nomenclatural uncertainty surrounding some of these species.
