Family TETRAONCOIDIDAE Bychowsky, 1951

Introduction

The Tetraoncoididae are characterised by a pair of central anchors on the ventral side of the haptor, and four additional anchors on the dorsal side of the ventral haptor. Sixteen marginal hooklets and one supporting haptoral plate are present. Eyes are absent, but see Pavlovskioides Bychowsky, Gusev & Nagibina, 1965. The intestine is a simple, single tube. The copulatory organ consists of tubular cirrus and accessory piece. The vagina has a marginal pore.

Tetraoncoidids are parasites of marine fish (Yamaguti 1963).
