Subfamily Stenocraninae Wagner, 1963

Introduction

The single Australian species placed in this subfamily needs to be assessed in terms of its relationship with other members of the group. Currently, it resides in Stenocranus which is probably not present in the Australian fauna. The subfamily Stenocraninae was first recognised by Wagner (1962) in a figure in a conference report but was formalised by Wagner (1963).

 

Diagnosis

Keine Tendez zur Verkürzung des Körpers; keine Brachypterie; Griffel waagerecht, zangenförmig; Legescheide des ♀ schildförmig, verbreitert, mit zahlreichen Wachsdrüsen auf der Unterseite; Zähne am pt. Sp. zu parallelseitigen Platten verbreitert (Wagner 1963).

Bases of teeth on the post-tibial spur plate-shaped; in the female genitalia, a separate copulation tract is developed, the females are ditrysic. In the male geniitalia, the aedeagus bears at least one horn-shaped process arising from the basal part of the theca, the theca distally of this point is membranous (from Asche 1985).
