Note
Throughout the cestode literature ever since Rudolphi, 1819, both names (Spirometra erinacei, Spirometra erinacei europaei ) have been used for the same cestode. All of the Australian literature uses the Spirometra erinacei, although some European literature us Spirometra erinaceieuropaei. The latter name certainly has page priority, and therefore is the name used here. (Beveridge pers. comm. 2004)
