Diagnosis

Carapace elongate-subovate to subrectangular, variable. Posterior end with more or less well-developed caudal process which is situated subcentrally to subdorsally. Valves often with wing-like lateral prolongations. Ornamentation variable. Inner lamella wide anteriorly, narrow in oral region, very wide posteriorly inner margin making strong forward curve before curving back to posterior hinge element. Marginal pore canals moderately numerous, some simple, some bifurcate, all more or less sinusoid or bent. Hinge merodont/entomodont. Normal pores moderately numerous, small, open.
