Taxonomic Decision for Synonymy
Introduction
The genus Scolypopa is well known in eastern Australia because of the common passionvine hopper, S. australis (Walker) but the other Australian species of the genus are not so well known. The genus also extends across the Oriental region to India and the Philippines although there are only eight species recognised.

Diagnosis
Caput thoraci subaequilatum, truncatum, ante oculos haud vel vix prominens; vertice transverso, postice late sinuato; fronte transversa, a medio sursum parum, versus clypeum valde rotundato-angustata, marginibus vix reflexis, tricarinata, carinis media distincta, lateralibus abbreviatus, obsoletis; clypeo convexo, haud carinato. Ocelli adsunt. Thorax semilunatus, antice rotundatus, postice late sinuatus, medio carinatus. Scutellum tricarinatum, carinis lateralibus anterius convergentibus. Tegmina sat ampla, abdomen nonnihil superantia, apicem versus sensim latiora, apice oblique truncata, angulo apicali exteriore rotundato; corio venis longitudinalibus, prope basin furcatis, per series 3 venularum transversarum conjunctis; area costali venis transversis instructa. Tibiae posticae bispinosae (Stål 1859).
Ces petits Ricaniides ont les élytres un peu élargis en arrière, de forme triangulaire, à bord costal très faiblement arqué en dehors et non sinué après le milieu de sa longueur; bord postérieur obliquement coupé. Angle apical arrondi, angle sutural obtus. Nervures longitudinales pas très serrées, nervures transversales formant trois lignes transversales dont la postérieure est située au devant du bord apical. Radius 1 et 2 partent de la cellule basale d'un même point. Médian et cubitus se bifurquent presque au même niveau. Membrane costale aussi large que la cellule costale, à nervures transversales denses. Front un peu plus large que long, à bords latéraux arrondis vers le clypeus; sur sa surface, trois carènes longitudinales, dont les latérales sont arquées et rapprochées du bord extérieur. Clypeus sans carènes. Vertex très étroit, plus court au milieu que sur les côtes. Pronotum très prolongé en avant et largement arrondi, carène au milieu. Écusson convexe, présentant trois carènes longitudinales dont les latéraux sont bifurquées par devant, les branches internes réunies à la carène médiane en angle aigu. Deux épines sur les tibias postérieurs (Melichar 1923).
