Species Scaeochlamys squamata Gmelin, 1791

Introduction

There is disagreement over the identity of this species. Dijkstra & Maestrati (2009) described a new species in the genus, Scaeochlamys squamea, stating it to be different to the species S. squamata (Gmelin 1791). However many authors treat S. squamea as a junior synonym of S. squamata Gmelin, 1791 (e.g. Raines & Poppe, 2010; MolluscaBase, 2020). We include the species here as a new record from Australian waters but await further evidence to confirm that S. squamea Dijkstra & Maestrati 2009 is a valid species.
