Saroba niphomacula (Lower, 1903) was listed by Poole (1989) as a junior subjective synonym of S. albopunctata (Semper, 1901). Holloway (1976) recorded S. albopunctata (Semper) from Australia and S. nipbomacula (Lower) was described from Australia. W.W Brandt (manuscript notes, ANIC) examined the holotype of both species and considered them separate. S. niphomacula (Lower) is regarded as the valid name for the Australian species until a thorough revision of the group is published)
