Species Sabella spallanzanii (Gmelin, 1791)

European Fan Worm, Magnificent Banded Fan Worm

 

Introduction

The European Fanworm, Sabella spallanzanii (Gmelin, 1791), is an invasive species in Australian coastal waters. Introduced from the Mediterranean, studies of museum specimens have shown that the species has been present in Australia at least since 1965, and is now present throughout southern Australia.
