Introduction
The Stomopneustidae are a monotypic family, known from the Indo-west Pacific, including Australian waters.
The family is distinguished from others in the order Phymostomatoida by the following combination of character states: primary tubercles noncrenulate; ambulacral tubercles usually as large as interambulacral tubercles; ambulacra compound, trigeminate or polyporous; primary spines solid; epiphyses not joined above the foramen magnum of the pyramids of the lantern; teeth keeled (stirodont-type).
