Family SICAFODIIDAE Just, 2004
Introduction
Just (2004) established the family Sicafodiidae for a new genus and species from the slope off Bass Strait and eastern Tasmania, Australia. It is a peculiar taxon with apparent piercing and sucking mouthparts. Nothing is known about the biology of sicafodiids, but based on the general morphology, Just (2004) speculated that because of “its slender epibenthic/pelagic pereopods 3-7 and the strongly developed pleosome the species is probably a roaming predator on some group or groups of sessile or sluggish benthic or epibenthic invertebrates”.
