  • Scraptiaeidae Gistel, 1848.
    Type genus:
     Scraptia Latreille, 1807.

Introduction

The Scraptiidae, or false flower beetles, are a small family of beetles with similar morphology to Melandryidae or Mordellidae, but much more delicately structured. There are estimated to be 30 species in Australia, compared with 400 species worldwide. Most Australian species are small and inconspicuous, but they may be common on understorey flowers in forests. The larvae are associated with dead wood and leaf litter.
The Australian fauna is poorly described. Only one of the two subfamilies occurs in Australia, Scraptiinae, and almost all described species are placed in the cosmopolitan genus Scraptia (Lawrence & Slipinski 2013).
