Introduction
The Schizasteridae are a cosmopolitan spatangoid family of about 12 extant genera. Five genera and eight species are recorded in Australian waters.
This family is distinguished from others in the order Spatangoida by the following features: usually possessing peripetalous and latero-anal fascioles, but lacking a marginal fasciole and sub-anal fasciole.
