Family RHAPHIDOPHORIDAE Walker, 1869

Introduction

Apterous, hump-backed wingless with long hind legs and a narrow divided fastigium. The tarsi are compressed and lack plantulae. The tibial auditory tympanum is absent in Australian species. Australian species confined to eastern states and especially diverse in Tasmania. All species occur in wet forests, rock outcrops, caves and mines. They are omnivorous and scavengers.
