Introduction
Nielsen (1996) included this family in the superfamily Gracillarioidea; his introduction is reproduced verbatum below.
Moths of this family usually have antennae longer than the forwings and species of some groups have the compound eyes divided horizontally. The family and its systematic position was reviewed by Kyrki (1983). The most extensive regional revision of the family was by Moriuti (1978) who included some Australian species.
The Australian fauna has not been revised. A substantial number of species were named by Meyrick (1893). The family was reviewed in Lepidopterum Catalogus (as Amphitheridae) by Meyrick (1914) and in part as Adelaidae by Meyrick (1912).
