Family RINGICULIDAE Philippi, 1853

Introduction

Ringiculids have a stout shell with a short spire, a large aperture with thickened outer lip, and very strong columellar teeth. The shell is usually creamy or greyish white. The animal appears to have no lateral division between foot and body, and the rear end of the head is formed into a high cylindrical exhalent siphon. Ringiculids are subtidal to deep-water infaunal species. Compiled from Burn (in press).
