Family RHOPALOTHYLACIDAE Guiart, 1935
Introduction
The family Rhopalothylacidae was erected by Guiart (1935) to accommodate two new genera, Rhopalothylax and Clujia, that he erected based on plerocerci collected from teleosts in the Atlantic Ocean. The types of these genera were re-examined by Beveridge & Campbell (2000). Clujia was found to be unidentifiable, but Rhopalothylax was found to be a synonym of Pintneriella Yamaguti, 1934, a genus previously considered valid but of uncertain taxonomic position (Beveridge & Campbell 2000). Redescription of Pintneriella by Beveridge & Campbell (2003) placed the Rhopalothylacidae in a clade containing the families Gilquiniidae, Gymnorhynchidae and Molicolidae. The validity of the family, however, remains uncertain.
