Introduction
While split into two subspecies based on the work of Naurois (1978) and Imber & Jenkins (1981), a demonstrated lack of valid diagnostic characters between the two subspecies led Portelli (2016) to conclude that the species is monotypic. This conclusion was supported by Iglesias-Vasquez et al. (2017) who did not find strong genetic differences between the two subspecies.
