Species Pseudophryne bibronii Günther, 1858
Bibron's Broodfrog, Bibron's Toadlet, Brown Broodfrog
- Pseudophryne bibronii Günther, A. 1858. Catalogue of the Batrachia Salientia in the Collection of the British Museum. London : British Museum xvi 160 pp. [46] [in part].
Type data:
Syntype(s) BMNH 1947.2.20.20, Australia and TAS
Comment: the original description refers to 4 syntypes, but BMNH records indicate that BMNH 1947.2.20.20 (which is also a syntype of Pseudophryne guentheri Boulenger, 1882) is the only extant syntype; consequently the name bibronii should apply strictly to the species currently known as guentheri, but as this would overturn existing usage, on the grounds that the status of the remaining syntype is uncertain, this action was not adopted by Cogger, H., Cameron, E.E. & Cogger, H.M. 1983. Amphibia. pp. 1–56 in Walton, D.W. (ed). Zoological Catalogue of Australia, Vol. 1. Amphibia and Reptilia. Netley, South Australia : Griffin Press Ltd vi 313 pp. [25]. - Pseudophryne coriacea Keferstein, W. 1868. Über die Batrachier Australiens. Archiv für Naturgeschichte 34: 253-290 [272 pl. 6 fig. 15] [in part].
Type data:
Syntype(s) ZFMK 28204, Clarence River, NSW
Comment: for remaining syntypes see Pseudophryne coriacea Keferstein, 1868.
