An alternate taxonomy (Hoser 2003, 2012) considers this taxon more speciose than treated herein, with additional Australian content being: Pseudonaja affinis charlespiersoni Hoser, 2012; P. elliotti Hoser, 2003; P. guttata whybrowi Hoser, 2012; P. textilis cliveevatti Hoser, 2012; P. textilis leswilliamsi Hoser, 2012; P. textilis rollinsoni Hoser, 2012.
