Introduction

Berlese (1910) described Protoplophora palpalis from Italy, and Grandjean (1932) subsequently recorded this species from Spain. However, it is now known that these two collections belong to two different species. Protoplophora palpalis sensu Grandjean was re-named P. grandjeani by Bernini (1983), and was provisionally identified from South Australia by Lee (1981). This identification must still be considered as unconfirmed (Bernini 1983; Colloff & Halliday 1998; Niedbała 2004; Niedbała & Liu, 2018).

Bernini's (1983) original spelling of the name of this species was P. grandeani, which is clearly an incorrect original spelling.
