Genus Prosena Lepeletier & Serville, 1828
Type species:
Stomoxys siberita Fabricius, 1775 by original designation.- Calirrhoe Meigen, J.W. 1800. Nouvelle classification des mouches à deux ailes (Diptera L.) d'après un plan tout nouveau. Paris : Perronneau pp. 1-40. [This publication suppressed by the I.C.Z.N.] [39] [invalid name; Unavailable name; work suppressed for the purposes of zoological nomenclature by action of I.C.Z.N. (1963: 339 [Opinion 678])].
- Calirrhoa Bezzi, M. 1907. Nomenklatorisches über Dipteren. Wiener Entomologische Zeitung 26: 51-56 [56] [invalid name; Unavailable name; criteria to make the name available not fulfilled in this work. Bezzi (1907) included this name only in a list of Meigen 1800 names without stating their availability; this is a misspelling of Calirrhoe Meigen, 1800].
- Callirrhoe Hendel, F. 1908. Nouvelle classification des mouches à deux ailes (Diptera L.). D'après un plan tout nouveau par J.G. Meigen, Paris, an VIII (1800 v.s.). Mit Kommentar herausgegeben von Friedrich Hendel. Verhandlungen der Zoologisch-Botanischen Gesellschaft in Wien 58: 43-69 [68] [invalid name; Unavailable name; incorrect original spelling of Calirrhoe Hendel, 1908 (Evenhuis & Pape 2017)].
- Calirrhoe Hendel, F. 1908. Nouvelle classification des mouches à deux ailes (Diptera L.). D'après un plan tout nouveau par J.G. Meigen, Paris, an VIII (1800 v.s.). Mit Kommentar herausgegeben von Friedrich Hendel. Verhandlungen der Zoologisch-Botanischen Gesellschaft in Wien 58: 43-69 [66] [Hendel (1908: 60) was the first after Meigen (1800) to give characters to differentiate Calirrhoe (reproducing Meigen’s characters) and to treat it as valid, which makes the name available from that work. Because Hendel repeated Meigen’s characters verbatim, Meigen acquires authorship, but Hendel also gave additional characters in his Anmerkung, which makes Hendel a co-author. Hendel (1908) included one species, Stomoxys siberita Fabricius, 1775, which is the type species by monotypy. Stomoxys siberita Fabricius, 1775 is currently treated in Prosena Le Peletier & Audinet-Serville, 1828 which makes Calirrhoe Meigen & Hendel in Hendel, 1908 a junior synonym of Prosena. There are two original spellings of this nominal genus in this work: Calirrhoe (page 66) and Callirrhoe (page 68). Acting as First Reviser, Evenhuis & Pape (2017) select Calirrhoe as the correct original spelling.].
Type species:
