Species Preptetos caballeroi Pritchard, 1960

Introduction

The species is morphologically cryptic relative to Preptetos allocaballeroi and Preptetos paracaballeroi. Preptetos caballeroi is unlikely to occur in Australia, with the comprehensive genetic sequencing conducted by Bray et al. 2022, but several host/parasite combinations were not sequenced, and could yet relate to P. caballeroi. In addition, sequence data for samples from Hawaii (the type-locality) will be needed to confirm the presence or absence of P. caballeroi in Australian waters.
