Introduction
The genus Porpita is commonly known as the Bluebottle or Portuguese Man-of-War. The blue float (pneumatophore) is a single individual and supports the rest of the colony (Brusca & Brusca, 1990).

New South Wales, Northern Territory, Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia
Extra Distribution Information
Cosmopolitan distribution throughout Australia. Most common on exposed beaches after strong onshore winds.
Ecological Descriptors
Size of float is 2 - 5cm: planktonic.
Colonial, hermaphrodite.
