Subfamily Poiocerinae Haupt, 1929

Compiler and date details

11 February 2011 - Murray J. Fletcher

Introduction

This subfamily has its best representation in the Americas; one subtribe occurs in the Australasian and eastern Oriental regions, with four genera. Until recently, only one species of this subfamily was known from Australia, Desudaboides fuscomaculata Musgrave. Recent work by the compiler has determined that the genus Birdantis Stål, a genus well represented in New Guinea, is also present in northern Australia. Jerome Constant (RBINS, Belgium) has added new species of Desudaboides Musgrave to the Australian fauna (Constant 2010) and has also determined that the Birdantis species in northern Australia are not species found in New Guinea but are undescribed. Descriptions of these are currently in press.

Diagnosis
