Coastal plains and ranges of NE QLD, 0–1000 m alt., north to Annan-Endeavour Rivers, south to Paluma Range, (?)occasionally region of Townsville-Ayr. Probably intergrades abruptly at northern limits with P. p. rogersi Mathews, 1912 (q.v.).

Randomly dispersed, seasonal breeder, general carnivore, in pairs or family groups on edges of rainforest and in vine forests along streams and mangroves, roosts by day on sheltered horizontal branches or in tree crotches, forages by night more in open eucalypt forests by flap-and-glide sallying from perches, builds brief platform nests of sticks, both sexes share nidificational duties.
