Genus Pileolina Bermúdez, 1952
- Pileolina Bermúdez, P.J. 1952. Estudio sistematico de los foraminiferos rotaliformis. Boletin de Geologia (Caracas) 2: 1-230.
Type species:
Valvulina pileolus d’Orbigny, 1839 by original designation.
Introduction
Parker (2009) points out that there is much confusion over the identity of Discorbinoides and its relationship to Pileolina Bermúdez 1952. Loeblich & Tappan (1987) considered Pileolina a genus of uncertain status as the type species is poorly defined and the type specimens are missing. Despite this, Hayward et al. (1999) argued that after Hornibrook & Vella‘s (1954) comments on the genus, the generic concept was well understood (from Mamo 2016).
