Introduction

The genus Phyllorhiza was originally proposed for the species P. chinensis Agassiz (1862), which was later declared by Mayer (1910: 684) to be 'too imperfectly described to be recognizable' and thought by him to be possibly synonymous with Cephea cephea. In making this decision, Mayer proposed P. punctata as the type species of the genus.
