Philiris sappheira sappheira Sands, 1980

Philiris nitens sappheira Sands, D.P.A. 1980. The identity of Philiris nitens (Grose-Smith) (Lepidoptera: Lycaenidae), with description of a new subspecies from Papua New Guinea. Australian Entomological Magazine 6(5): 81–86 [82].
Type data: holotype ANIC 3297 ♂* (Sands designated a holotype), paratypes ANIC 1♂*, ANIC 1♀*, KONE 2♂*; Ring, L.R. & Olive, J.C 1997. The specific status of Philiris sappheira Sands (Lepidoptera: Lycaenidae), with description of a new subspecies from Australia. Australian Entomologist 24(2): 65–72 [65] (referred to a holotype); Parsons, M.J. 1998. The Butterflies of Papua New Guinea; their systematics and biology. San Diego : Academic Press 736 pp. [369] (referred to a holotype).
Type locality: Rouna Falls, Central Province, Papua New Guinea (designated in original description).
