SYSTEMATICS

Slide-mounted adult female with: enlarged setae absent; hair-like setae scattered over dorsal surface; dorsal multilocular pores present marginally; ventral multilocular pores in clusters over entire venter; cruciform pores present on dorsum only; antennae 7-segmented; macrotubular ducts present; microtubular ducts medium in length, with 1 sclerotized area (see Gullan, P.J. & Strong, K.L. 1997. Scale insects under eucalypt bark: a revision of the Australian genus Phacelococus Miller (Hemiptera: Eriococcidae). Australian Journal of Entomology 36: 229–240).

STRUCTURE

This species occurs in a wax cell which it produces under the bark of its host (see Miller, D.R. 1970. A new genus and species of scale insect from Tasmania (Homoptera: Eriococcidae). Journal of the Australian Entomological Society 9: 157–159). Gullan, P.J. & Strong, K.L. 1997. Scale insects under eucalypt bark: a revision of the Australian genus Phacelococus Miller (Hemiptera: Eriococcidae). Australian Journal of Entomology 36: 229–240 state that this species does not produce a sac, but is embedded in a sheet of wax and has to be dissected out, leaving a globular "cell."
