Diagnosis
Petrosia with a very dense irregular tangential ectosomal reticulation of free strongyles and oxeas of different sizes echinated by small centrangulate microxeas. Large strongyles are grouped and radiate from the nodes. Small bundles of short strongyles (sometimes sausage-shaped) are also present at the nodes, giving the surface its granular appearance. Choanosomal skeleton a dense network of strongyles which are partly assembled to form strong tracts with no visible spongin. An interstitial network of connecting tracts of strongyles and free strongyles gives the sponge a stony texture. (Emended from Dendy 1905).
