Species Panesthia australis Brunner von Wattenwyl, 1865

     Syntype(s) NHMW adults (Roth, L.M. 1977. A taxonomic revision of the Panesthiinae of the world. I. The Panesthiinae of Australia (Dictyoptera: Blattaria: Blaberidae). Australian Journal of Zoology Supplementary Series 48: 1–112 (27) could not locate the type specimens and only saw specimens from Port Denison; Roach, A.M.E. in Roach, A.M.E. & Rentz, D.C.F. 1998. Blattodea. pp. 21–162, 400 (App. III), 407–426 in Houston, W.W.K. & Wells, A. (eds). Zoological Catalogue of Australia. Archaeognatha, Zygentoma, Blattodea, Isoptera, Mantodea, Dermaptera, Phasmatodea, Embioptera, Zoraptera. Melbourne : CSIRO Publishing, Australia Vol. 23 . [107] Rentz, D.C.F. saw one of the Port Denison specimens with an invalid (as the designation was never published) lectotype label written by Roth in 1973, this label should be removed, and also located a specimen labelled 'Moreton Bay' in NHMW which may be part of the type series), Sydney (as Sidney), NSW and Moreton Bay, QLD.
  • Panesthia perfecta Kirby, W.F. 1903. Notes on Blattidae, with descriptions of new genera and species in the collection of the British Museum, South Kensington. No. I. Annals and Magazine of Natural History 11: 404-415 [414] [Kirby erected perfecta as he thought the specimen Saussure, H. de 1895. Révision de la tribu Panesthiens et de celle des Épilampriens (Orthoptères de la famille des Blattides). Revue Suisse de Zoologie 3: 299–364 (323) described as an additional Panesthia australis Brunner von Wattenwyl, 1865 was misidentified, for this reason type specimen(s) should come from Saussure].
