Ecological Descriptors
Carnivorous, marine, planktonic.
Diagnosis
Umbrella flat bell-shaped, 1 1/2 times as broad as high. Marginal flaps oval, about as long as broad, and 1/3 as long as the radius of the umbrella. Tentacles pointed, twice as long as the marginal flaps. 4 simple interradial gastral filaments. 4 gonads horseshoe-shaped without flaps and smooth. Size: Breadth of umbrella, 8mm. Height of umbrella, 6mm.

Notes
The species was originally described as Ephyra prometeor Haeckel (1880: 482), from the coast of Australia (a more exact locality was not given). von Lendenfeld (1885d: 260) treated the species as valid. However, Mayer (1910: 551) regarded it as the young of Haeckel's later-described Palephyra antiqua (Haeckel, 1880: 484), as did Kramp (1961b: 317).
