Family PSOROPTOIDIDAE Gaud, 1958
Introduction
The family Psoroptoididae includes about 40 species in nine genera world-wide. They are are feather mites that occur on a wide variety of bird hosts (Gaud & Atyeo 1996; OConnor 2009). Two genera are known from Australia, each with a single described species. Many more species will be found when the feather mite fauna of Australian birds is surveyed more extensively. This family should not be confused with the Psoroptidae, which occurs on mammals.
