Introduction
The family Porcellanasteridae is recorded from the Atlantic, Indian, Pacific and southern oceans. Eleven genera are known, but only a single genus and species are recorded in Australian waters.
Porcellanasterids are distinguished within the order Paxillosida by the following combination of character states: arms five; marginals very thin, cribriform organs highly developed but (with one exception) present only between some marginals; oral interradial areas without channels.
