Family PNEUMODERMATIDAE Latreille, 1825
Introduction
Pneumodermatids are the only gymnosomes with suckered buccal arms, which are used to feed on shelled thecosomes. Chromatophores often occur on the surface of the body and give the animal a purple or brown colour. Two species are common in Australian waters. Taxonomy and distribution were reviewed by van der Spoel (1976). Compiled from Beesley et al. (1998).
