Introduction

The family Pentametrocrinidae is known from Japan to the Antarctic, New Zealand, and the Indian and Atlantic Oceans. Two genera are known and one species in one of these is recorded in Australian waters.

This comatulid family is similar to Antedonidae but is distinguished by the following combination of character states: radials 5 or 10, with corresponding number of arms; arms undivided; IBr series absent, first brachials arising from radials; first syzygy between 4+5, and with variable intervals distally.
