Family PEDROCORTESELLIDAE Paschoal, 1987

Introduction

The classification of the Superfamily Plateremaeoidea has not yet been satisfactorily resolved. Different authors have proposed different classifications, and the system used here for this and related families must be regarded as provisional. In the classification used by Schatz et al. (2011), the family Pedrocortesellidae includes two genera and 41 species. The family is primarily Gondwanan in distribution, with almost all its species described from Australia, South Africa, and South America. The Australian fauna includes two genera and 26 species, most of which were described by Hunt (1996a, 1996b). The fauna is especially rich in semi-arid woodland, and includes many species that are found on tree trunks as well as those from leaf litter (Colloff & Halliday 19989; Norton & Behan-Pelletier 2009). Unidentified species of Pedrocortesellidae were reported by Callan et al. (2011) and Majer et al. (2013).
