Family PARHYPOCHTHONIIDAE Grandjean, 1932

Introduction

The family Parhypochthoniidae is small, with a single genus and four species (Schatz et al. 2011). Subias (2011) reported nine species, but described six of those as "sp. inq.", indicating uncertain identification. Norton & Behan-Pelletier (2009) reported that North American species are common in forest soils, bogs, decaying logs and tree holes. The family is known from Australia only on the basis of an unidentified species of Parhypochthonius, represented by a single nymph collected from mallee soil in Victoria (Colloff & Halliday 1998).
