Introduction

The family has sometimes been viewed as a subfamily of Apseudidae, for example by Sieg (1984, 1986) but was accepted by Gutu (1996) and Gutu & Sieg (1999). There are 22 genera, with nine known from Australia. Gutu (2008) provides a key to the genera. Błażewicz-Paszkowycz & Bamber (2012) elevated two tribes of Gutu (2008) to subfamily level.

Diagnosis

Pleon with 5 pleonites. Mandibular palp 3-articled. Maxilla 1 with palp. Epignath of maxilliped broad, cup-shaped. Inner caudodistal seta of maxillipedal endite not transformed into leaf-shaped spine. Pereopods 1-3 ambulatory, not stronger than others, not fossorial. Dactylus not transformed into an aesthetasc-like structure.
