Taxonomic Decision for Synonymy
- Miller, J.S. 1987. Phylogenetic studies in the Papilioninae (Lepidoptera: Papilionidae). Bulletin of the American Museum of Natural History 186: 368-512
Introduction
"The genus Ornithoptera Boisduval, 1832, which includes several taxa from Australia, was subsumed under Troides Hübner, [1819], by Miller (1987), but is now generally regarded as a distinct monophyletic genus sister to Troides (Hancock 1991; Hancock & Orr 1997; Morinaka et al. 1999; Morinaka et al. 2000; Kondo, Shinkawa & Matsuka 2003; Braby, Trueman & Eastwood 2005). Hence, the species group names priamus, euphorion and richmondia listed under Troides in the Checklist (Edwards 1996c) are now placed under Ornithoptera." (Braby 2010)
