Tribe Orgeriini Melichar, 1912
Compiler and date details
16 September 2010 - Murray J. Fletcher
- Orgeriini Melichar, L. 1912. Monographie der Dictyophorinen. Abhandlungen der K.K. Zoologisch-botanischen Gesellschaft in Wien 7(1): 1-221 [179] [originally as Orgerini (sic)].
Type genus:
Orgerius Stål, 1859.
Introduction
Melichar (1912) split the Orgeriinae into two tribes, the Orgeriini and the Bursini but the type genus of the latter, Bursinia Costa, was placed in the Orgeriini. Schmidt (1915) introduced the name Lyncidini with type genus Lyncides Stål as a new name for the Bursini.
Diagnosis
Muir (1923) separates the two tribes of Orgeriinae on the basis of length of the tegmina. In the Orgeriini, the tegmina are very short, not nearly covering the abdomen, while in the Lyncidini the tegmina almost or entirely cover the abdomen. It is possible that neither tribe occurs in Australia, the sole Australian species being misplaced in the Orgeriinae.
