Subspecies Oreixenica orichora paludosa (Lucas, 1892)

  • Type data:
Syntype(s) whereabouts unknown , near Launceston, TAS (in original description)
Comment: Lucas in the original description mentioned both sexes; Couchman, L.E. 1953. Notes on some species of Oreixenica Waterhouse & Lyell (Lepidoptera, Satyridae), with descriptions of new forms. Proceedings of the Royal Entomological Society of London 22(5–6): 73–84 [74] (identified two possible female types, stated that Lucas' description was of the female only, and identified the specimens as synonymous with O. latialis Waterhouse & Lyell, he chose to apply the name paludosa to an unknown Tasmanian population of O. latialis on the basis of these specimens); Couchman, L.E. 1956. A catalogue of the Tasmanian Lepidoptera-Rhopalocera. Pap. Proc. R. Soc. Tasm. 90: 1–33 [25] (again discussed the types); Couchman, L.E. & Couchman, R. 1977. The butterflies of Tasmania. Tasmanian Year Book No. 11. pp. 66–96. [86] (had decided by this date that no population of O. latialis was likely to be found in Tasmania and that the specimens in the SAMA were not types or were wrongly labelled, he then applied the name paludosa to the Tasmanian butterfly previously known as O. orichora flynni Hardy).
  • Type data:
Holotype AM KL01697 (Hardy in the original description stated that he had a single female), Cradle Mountain, 3000 ft, TAS (designated in original description)
Comment: Couchman, L.E. 1956. A catalogue of the Tasmanian Lepidoptera-Rhopalocera. Pap. Proc. R. Soc. Tasm. 90: 1–33 [25] (type information but the 'neallotype' mentioned has no status); Peters, J.V. 1971. A Catalogue of the Type Specimens of the Hesperioidea and Papilionoidea (Lepidoptera) in the Australian Museum. Greenwich, NSW : Australian Entomological Press 36 pp. [21] (type information).
